Joe Jonas admits he was "so jealous" when Nick was tapped for 'The Voice': "I cried my eyes out"

Since the days of Cain and Abel, sibling rivalry has been a favorite trope used by artists in both literature and film. For instance, a prominent theme of Shakespeare's 'King Lear' is the fierce competition between the three daughters, and adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Sherlock Holmes' often portray high levels of competition between the detective and his brother. But ask anyone with a brother or sister and they'll tell you that sibling rivalry also exists in real life.
The Jonas Brothers know it well, despite all being on the same team again now. They spoke about their competitive moments on the 'Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard' podcast, and Joe revealed that his jealousy once brought him to tears. The singer explained that he was at a Fleetwood Mac concert at Madison Square Garden in 2019 when he found out that Nick had been hired as a coach on 'The Voice' season 18, which made him jealous because he'd already served as a coach on 'The Voice Australia' and felt more fit for the job. "I was so jealous I cried my eyes out to 'Landslide,'" he recalled. "It was bittersweet, of course, 'cause I'm super happy for him, but I'm also bummed 'cause I want that [ ] gig!" he added.
Nick added that both he and Joe had also auditioned for the same role in 'Wicked.' "And we were going into it… and naturally, we're brothers, we’re competitive in sports and other things, but when it comes to our career, I think we genuinely both looked at each other like…" Nick trailed off. Joe added, "Yeah, we said, 'Go in there and kill it 'cause it’s gotta be one of us. It has to be one of us.' That being said, never got that call…"
Feelings of competitiveness are particularly common in siblings who are close in age or particularly gifted and talented. It comes as no surprise, then, that some of the world's most successful artists, businessmen, and intellectuals are at loggerheads with their siblings.
