The stigma of the stay-at-home dad
We still have a long way to go when challenging gender roles

Women only started working outside of the home in large numbers in the 20th century. It's the norm today, but in the grand scheme of history it's a relatively recent phenomenon. But, indeed, these days traditional gender roles don’t have as much weight for most people in the Western world as they used to. And with this said, we have a relatively new addition to our communities: the stay-at-home dad.
This generally refers to a father who stays at home and does the kind of work that a housewife in the 1920s was expected to do: cooking, cleaning, and generally taking care of the house and family.
But this newer role for men has risen brows. Unfortunately, there is a lot of stigma associated with the stay-at-home dad.
Click through the following gallery to explore why more men occupy this role, and the stigma associated with it.
