But if you like interacting with the public outdoors, then the job can be very rewarding.

There are a huge variety of production jobs out there, but they all share one thing in common. Employees invariably spend hours on their feet, quite often standing in the same spot. But the monotony of work is usually compensated for by a decent paycheck, especially if you're employed in the automotive industry.

According to Runner's World, a referee officiating over a professional soccer match will cover six to eight miles (nine to 12 km) while scrutinizing the action and looking out for rule violations.

Working in the hospitality business often requires a stout pair of legs, especially if you're employed in the hotel industry. Domestic workers can cover a significant distance collecting dirty clothes and garbage from bedrooms, distributing necessary amenities and material, and keeping common areas spotless.

In cafés, a barista's duties include making and/or serving coffee and coffee-based beverages, and helping to take orders. All on their feet, of course.

Baker -

Bakers work within the food service industry. Their job description typically entails weighing and mixing ingredients by hand or using machinery, preparing them for the oven, and decorating and finishing baked items ready for dispatch or shop display. And all this on two feet before the rest of us have woken up!

Surgeon -

Depending on the procedure, a surgeon can be working for up to eight hours while all the time standing. Incidentally, the longest surgery so far recorded lasted for 103 hours and involved a team of 20 doctors at Singapore General Hospital working in shifts to separate 11-month-old twins conjoined at the head.

But a personal trainer's job includes a fair bit of upright posture after they've demonstrated a technique and while they supervise their student's efforts.

The average flight attendant takes between 14 and 16 steps per minute, according to Simple Flying. And here's an interesting statistic: during a long-haul 13-hour jaunt from London Heathrow to Singapore, a flight attendant will take on average 11,700 steps. That's over four miles (eight km) and three lengths of the Golden Gate Bridge!
