Fukushima -

This desolate landscape is what is left of the Japanese city of Fukushima. In 2011, there was a large earthquake followed by a tsunami. As if this wasn't enough, the local nuclear plant then exploded. Ever since then, the area has had deathly-high levels of radiation.

Vanuatu archipelago -

In the Pacific Ocean lies Vanuatu. It's a tiny country made up of volcanic islands. There are active volcanoes above and below ground, making it one of the most likely places for eruptions on Earth.

Death Valley -

Extremely cold in winter and deathly hot in the summer, this valley is no place for the faint-hearted. The temperature has been known to go up to 136ºF (57ºC).

Haiti -

As we saw with the tragic 2010 earthquake, Haiti is at constant risk of a natural disaster. Geologically, Haiti is in a bad position because it's found on top of a major fault line. This makes earthquakes and hurricanes fairly common.

Ilha da Queimada Grande -

This Brazilian island would be many people's worst nightmare. It's full to the brim with poisonous snakes, ready to dart at your ankles. Even if you wanted to visit this reptilian paradise, tourists are banned because it is so dangerous.

Lake Nyos -

In Cameroon, residents still remember the Nyos disaster. In 1986, the lake released 1.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the air. It killed thousands of people and animals. Scientists suspect that there is a volcano beneath the lake's bed that prompted the eruption.

Naples -

The city is overlooked by Vesuvius, which, if it erupted would cause a disaster of unimaginable magnitude. Not far from the city are the Campi Flegrei, another volcanic area that could one day explode.

Mailuu-Suu -

During the existence of the USSR, this town in Kyrgyzstan was classified as a secret nuclear city. It was a uranium mine, but when the mining stopped, the area was not secured properly. The abandoned radioactive waste makes it the most polluted town in the world.

North Sentinel Island -

It is not nature that will kill you here, but the residents. The island is home to a native tribe that kills those who come too close to the island. Two fishermen from India were murdered in 2006 when they came too close to the coast. Since then, people have tended to stay away!

"The Gates of Hell" -

Hell seems to have materialized in the Darvaza gas crater in Turkmenistan. In order to stop methane from escaping from it, it is set on fire by geologists. This man-made fire has been burning for over 50 years!
